Shakib Al Hasan was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders for 3.2 crores at the IPL 2021 player auction and now the management is in a fix over choosing between him and Sunil Narine for KKR’s first game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. KKR CEO Venky Mysore said that Shakib could prove to be a cover for all their three major overseas players in skipper Eoin Morgan, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell.
Meanwhile, KKR skipper Eoin Morgan addressing a fan interaction opened on the kind of role Shakib Al Hasan is expected to play in the season. The Bangladesh cricketer was part of the Kolkata franchise for six years between 2011 and 2017, before he was released. He played for SRH between 2018 and 2020 and is back to KKR again.

“Given that we play at different venues where the conditions change quite a lot, you have a spin-bowling all-rounder who had success in international cricket and IPL at different stages. Shakib Al Hasan gives us a different dynamic in the team said Morgan.
The KKR captain further compared Shakib to Sunil Narine and also backed the Caribbean spinner to have a great season.
Shakib Al Hasan & Sunil Narine Are No Different: Eoin Morgan
“Shakib and Sunil Narine are no different. In big moments of the game, particularly last year, you would throw Sunil the ball, or you would get him in with the bat because he has been in that situation over and over again.
While Andre Russell and Eoin Morgan are definitely going to play against Sunrisers, they are confused on whom to choose between Narin and Shakib. Pat Cummins is expected to be the fourth foreigner in the playing XI.
Narine has not been the same with the bell ever since he was forced to change his action. With the bat too, he has been inconsistent at the top in the previous two seasons. The Windies cricketer was dropped in a few games last season as well. KKR face SRH later tonight in Chennai.
