Yesterday the world saw a cliff hanger in the IPL 2020 between the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab. The Sharjah Cricket Stadium was once again at the centre of it all as batsmen made a mockery of its short boundaries.

Interestingly when KXIP posted a humongous total of 223 for 2, popular commentator Harsha Bhogle took to twitter and started an intriguing observation. The Indian commentator appreciated the batsmanship he saw from KXIP and added that the Sharjah stadium didn’t appear this small during the 1990s.

Meanwhile, the team mentor of Shane Warne who was taken to cleaners at Sharjah several times immediately ridiculed Bhogle. Warner pointed out that the ground looked small to the bowlers that were playing even in the 90s but not who were covering the matches.

Quickly the analyst in Bhogle emerged as he put out a revealing stat for Warner. He tweeted that the average score back in the 90s were around 227 but now teams are achieving that in T20 overs. The legendary leg spinner again replied to him by saying that the quality of bowlers was better during his era and pitches were different.

“Stats don’t tell the truth. Better bowlers back then from all countries and completely different pitch ! Anyway, the @rajasthanroyals are still in this ! 210 is a par score”. Warne tweeted

The debate of pitches getting flat and lesser quality bowlers around the world has been constant since the 2010s. The past players have always stated that the batsmen are today given an unfair advantage and there is no longer a fair contest between bat and ball.

Moreover, Warne was a happy man as his predictions came true and Rajasthan Royals chased down the target with 3 balls to spare. Sanju Samson and Rahul Tewatia starred in the chase as they put on a six-hitting exhibition at Sharjah. Furthermore, the Royals now hold the record for the highest successful chase in IPL history.
