The emergence of KL Rahul in the top-order has raised doubts over the place of Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian team. Many have backed Rahul to open with Rohit Sharma in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year if it happens. However, Dhawan is not pondering on his competition with the Karnataka batsman and wants to give his best in every game.

The dashing southpaw was slated to open in New Zealand in the shorter formats; however, a shoulder injury ruled him out. KL Rahul made most out of the opportunity and scored 224 runs in the series, which should see him keep the opening spot going ahead.

Since then, there has been a lot of discussions over Shikhar Dhawan’s place in the side but the cricketer doesn’t seem to deter by this. The opener from Delhi aims to concentrate on his job and score runs whenever he goes out to bat. Dhawan also revealed that he is aiming for the T20 World Cup and is preparing for it.

“I am aiming for the World Cup, I am preparing for it. I am working on my fitness. I know whenever an opportunity comes, I should be ready to play. Team selection is not my hands. I want to perform. Over the last 1 year, it’s been about getting injured and making comebacks for me. It’s part and parcel of the game,” he told Irfan Pathan on Instagram.

Furthermore, Shikhar Dhawan downplayed his competition with KL Rahul and heaped praise on the wicket-keeper batsman. He admitted that Rahul was batting on a different level and it gives him immense joy to watch the Karnataka batsman dazzle in the middle.

“Of course, KL Rahul is playing very well. It gives me a lot of joy in watching him bat from the other end. He is on another level. I watched him bat during the Sri Lanka series. It was my comeback. I was at the non-striker’s end. He was hitting it all over the park. It was on a different level. I was loving it. He is playing so well. Rohit is playing so well,” Shikhar Dhawan added.
