West Indies have announced their squads for the Tests and T20Is for their upcoming tour to New Zealand comprising of comprising three T20Is and two Tests from November 27 and December 15. Alongside Shimron Hetmyer, Darren Bravo and Keemo paul have also been included in the Test squad. West Indies have also announced a list of back up players for injury concerns to any players.
In the T20I squad, there’s place for all-rounder Kyle Mayers, who impressed with 222 runs in 9 CPL 2020 games for Barbados Tridents. There’s also space for Andre Fletcher in the T20I squad, who makes it back for the first time since 2018.
Big Names Like Andre Russell, Lendle Simmons and Evin Lewis have opted out of the tour. Hetmyer has played six matches for Delhi Capitals in this season so far. he has scored a mere 91 runs at a strike rate of 150 for the side.
An unfortunate injury to Rishabh Pant has seen him drop out of the side to make a place for wicketkeeper Alex Carey in the side. Delhi Capitals are currently placed second in the points table alongside Mumbai Indians with 12 points from eight games.
Apart from his prowess with the bat, Hetmyer has been prolific in the field for Delhi taking as many as seven catches in six games. It will be interesting to see if he returns to the side when Pant returns fit into the squad.
