Former India batter Virender Sehwag has advised Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant to find the proper balance between batting with responsibility and playing freely. The wicket-keeper batter has had an underwhelming season so far in IPL 2022.
Sehwag believes that either Pant is playing too slow or playing rash shots and throwing away his wicket, which is not helping the side. Speaking on the Cricbuzz show, Virender Sehwag said: “Yes, Pant should play with a bit of responsibility. But when he does that, the strike rate falls. On the other hand, when he is playing freely, he gets out. He needs to find the right balance wherein he is able to play freely while batting till the end.”
Virender Sehwag also said that Pant must not score a run a ball 40 as it doesn’t take his team anywhere. Sehwag wants to see the fearless Pant. “Pant must not carry any baggage and play like the Pant of old. A run-a-ball 40 doesn’t suit Pant and doesn’t take the team anywhere,” added Sehwag on the Cricbuzz show.
Rishabh Pant has scored 234 runs in 9 matches in IPL 2022 with an average of 33.43 and a strike rate of 149. However, he has failed to score even a single fifty this season which shows he hasn’t made those big scores.

According to Virender Sehwag, Pant’s form is the key to Delhi Capitals’ success. The cricket expert wants Pant to learn from MS Dhoni – the art of taking it deep in a run chase. Sehwag said that the youngster has the ability to score 20 runs in the final over, but for that, he needs to stay till the end.
“Rishabh Pant will be the key for DC. Even if the openers fire, it is still important for him to score runs in the middle. If he is an MS Dhoni fan, he should learn from him. Pant has the ability to score 20-25 runs in the final over, but for that, he has to be at the crease until the last over,” said Sehwag in the show.
