Shubman Gill during the Test series proved to everybody why he’s rated so highly in Indian cricket. The gifted batsman looked the part in his debut Test series and slammed 259 runs at an average of 51.80 that included two fifties. Now after his impressive performances, Shubman Gill attributed Yuvraj Singh who helped him get ready for the test Down Under.
Gill revealed that a camp with Yuvraj ahead of the IPL prepared him well against short pitch deliveries. He added that Yuvraj helped him a lot as he would bowl short balls at him with different angles so that he could fine-tune his skills. This certainly helped him as the 21-year-old wasn’t worried about chin music in the Test series and scored convincingly against the fast bowling trio of Australia.
Shubman Gill says the Camp With Yuvraj Singh was very useful and helped him prepare better
Talking about his 91 at Brisbane, Gill stated that he would have loved to score a century but eventually was happy to contribute in the famous victory. Gill has now shifted focus on the next Test series against England at home. He is excited to face the likes of Jofra Archer, James Anderson and Stuart Broad. Before that Gill is relishing some time at home and wants to indulge in his favourite dishes before he steps on the field again.
“The camp with Yuvi paaji before the IPL was very useful. During that camp, he prepared me to face chin music. He used to throw hundreds of short-pitch balls to me from different angles, and I think it helped me a lot”, Gill was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“I am relaxed now. Making my debut for India is a big relief. I was a bit nervous. A century could have been cherry on the cake. I was well set and I should have scored the century, but at the same time, I am happy that I have contributed to the team’s victory. This series was a big learning curve for me and I have become a better cricketer”.
He further opined, “The next goal is to score consistently at this level. England series will be crucial for me because now I will not be an unknown entity. Facing the likes of James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer will be challenging but I am up for it. I was craving for homemade food. For the next couple of days, I just want to be home and eat my favourite dishes”, Gill concluded.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh will be mighty proud of the way Gill batted against the quality bowling attack of Australia in his debut series. Now, Shubman Gill will be aiming to continue his prolific batting form against England. He and Rohit Sharma are likely to stay openers for team India in the home Test series against England. The first Test between India and England will be played at Chennai from 5 February.
