Shubman Gill’s Comparison To Indian Cricket Greats Is “Too Early,” Says Kapil Dev

Shubman Gill is in excellent form in the current IPL. He scored 851 runs at an average of over 60 and a strike rate of over 150.

Kapil Dev, a former captain of India, believes Shubman Gill must continue to play well for two or three more IPL seasons in order to be considered one of the game’s best players.

While many cricket analysts and experts have begun to compare the young player to players like Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar. Kapil believes it is too soon to accord Gill that stature.

“It appears that Shubman Gill is following in the footsteps of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli with the type of batting he is displaying right now”, says Kapil Dev.

However, before making any major claims, I’d like to give him one more season. He certainly possesses the talent and ability, but Kapil told ABP News that he needs to be more mature.

Shubman Gill Is Too Young To Be Compared To Sachin Tendulkar Or Virat Kohli: Kapil Dev

Shubman Gill’s Comparison To Indian Cricket Greats Is “Too Early,” Says Kapil Dev.

“There is no question that he could join the ranks of great players if he plays another season like this. But at this time, I don’t want to take him to that league”.

“He might want to extend his gift by another year”. The former captain of India continued, “It’s too early to say”.

“In IPL 2023, Gill has three centuries. He is very close to Virat Kohli’s record (973 runs) for most runs scored in a single T20 tournament”.

“Maturity sets in and your talent is put to the test after playing this type of cricket for about three seasons”.

“By that point, bowlers are familiar with your assets and weaknesses. Gill is a great player or has the potential to be a great player if he can handle that”, according to Kapil.
