Sarfaraz Khan, the young Indian batter, has undergone a significant transformation ahead of the Test series against England. According to a report by India Today, Sarfaraz has lost 10 kilograms through a strict diet plan focused on boiled vegetables and chicken. This step was taken to improve his fitness and readiness for international cricket.
Though he debuted for India in 2024, Sarfaraz has not played any overseas Test matches yet. He was selected for the India A squad for two matches against England Lions, which could serve as a stepping stone for his entry into the senior team. His hard work and commitment to fitness are being closely watched by the selectors as they consider new talent to strengthen the Indian batting lineup.
India A Squad’s Preparation and Upcoming Matches
The India A team, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, is set to tour England, starting on May 30. They will play two matches against the England Lions – from May 30 to June 2 in Canterbury and from June 6 to 9 in Northampton. There will also be an intra-squad match against the senior Indian team from June 13 to 16 in Beckenham.
Notably, Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan will join the India A squad after the IPL concludes on June 3. The team features several promising players like Dhruv Jurel (vice-captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shardul Thakur, Ishan Kishan, Mukesh Kumar, Akash Deep, Harshit Rana, and Sarfaraz Khan. Sarfaraz, who had suffered a rib injury during the Australia tour, is now back and determined to make a strong comeback.
Karun Nair’s Return and Young Talent in Focus
Karun Nair, known for his triple century against England in 2016, has made a return to the spotlight. He performed brilliantly in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy, scoring 863 runs at an average of 53.93, making him the fourth-highest run-scorer of the season. He also played for Northamptonshire in the English County Championship, where he scored 736 runs in 14 innings at an impressive average of 56.61, including two centuries.
With the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, selectors are now looking at players like Nair and Easwaran to fill the void. The squad also includes uncapped talents like Manav Suthar, Tanush Kotian, Anshul Kamboj, Tushar Deshpande, and Harsh Dubey – the leading wicket-taker and Player of the Tournament in the Ranji season.
