Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s potential participation in the Champions Trophy rests on a critical report from a New Zealand-based specialist. The Indian pacer, a cornerstone of the national cricket team, has been undergoing treatment for a back injury that sidelined him for much of the past year. His recovery process has been monitored closely, but the final call regarding his return to action will depend on the upcoming evaluation.
Fans and the Indian cricket management are eagerly awaiting the report, which will determine whether Bumrah can contribute to India’s campaign in the high-profile tournament.
Although India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-3, ICC Hall of Famer Ricky Ponting hailed Jasprit Bumrah’s performance as not only the best he has witnessed from a visiting bowler in Australia but possibly one of the finest fast-bowling displays of all time.
Australia’s 3-1 victory marked their first possession of the BGT since 2014. Travis Head was the standout batter of the series, amassing 448 runs, including two centuries and one fifty. On the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah was in a league of his own, topping the charts with a record-breaking 32 wickets.
In 2024, Bumrah further solidified his reputation as a world-class bowler with remarkable statistics across all formats. Playing 21 matches, he claimed 86 wickets at an exceptional average of 13.76 and a strike rate of 26.9—the best by any Indian bowler in a calendar year. His stellar performances included five five-wicket hauls, all coming in Test matches.
A BCCI source said: “The BCCI medical team is in touch with Schouten in New Zealand. The board had also planned a visit for Bumrah to New Zealand. But that hasn’t happened yet. The selectors know it will be a miracle if Bumrah turns up 100% fit in the given timeline,”
“The reports will be shared with his doctor in New Zealand. Sending Bumrah to New Zealand will depend on the feedback. The board and Bumrah himself are not willing to push hard given his significance over a long period of time.”
India’s Dominance Over Bangladesh in Test Series

The series saw standout performances from players like Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah. On the first day of the opening Test, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja rescued India from a precarious position, laying the groundwork for a commanding win.
Bumrah’s four-wicket haul on Day 2 ensured India remained in control. Despite spirited resistance from the Bangladesh side, India maintained its composure and emerged victorious, reinforcing its prowess in red-ball cricket.
