Sunil Gavaskar is optimistic about India’s chances in the 4th Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. The Australian team always looks forward to playing at the ‘Gabba’ as it completely suits their style of play. There is pace and bounce on the surface which the Aussie fast bowlers will be using to good effect to intimidate Indian batsmen in the 4th Test.

One quite remarkable stat is the fact that Australia has never lost a Test match in Brisbane since 1988. The Gabba in Brisbane has historically been a happy hunting ground for the hosts but still, Gavaskar has stated that team India has what it takes to beat them at their stronghold.

Gavaskar pointed out that before the series he predicted that India will win the series 2-1 and he still sticks by it and thinks India will retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy. Well, this team has shown that they perform at their best when their backs are against the wall and when nobody gives them a chance.

The legendary Gavaskar was elated with the way India batted on the last day of SCG Test and registered a draw. The former cricketer gave credit to Rishabh Pant and Cheteshwar Pujara who stood tall and batted splendidly. Sunil Gavaskar tagged it as one of the most famous fightbacks in Indian cricket history and a perfect gift for Rahul Dravid on his birthday.

“I wasn’t very certain that they would be even able to survive up to tea. But then, Rishabh Pant came in and went down the pitch to try and hit Nathan Lyon for those big sixes, threw him off his line and length. And then, Cheteshwar Pujara. He is the wall. Today is the original wall, Rahul Dravid’s birthday, and how happy he would be that his birthday is celebrated with one of the most famous fightbacks in Indian cricket history”, said a beaming Gavaskar to India Today.

“I predicted on Australian television that India is going to win the series 2-1. At the moment the series is 1-1. I know that the Gabba in Brisbane is Australia’s fortress but India have the ability to take on the Australians. They (Australia) have hardly lost there since 1988 but there is always a first time. If Ajinkya Rahane and company do it, I won’t be surprised at all”, concluded Gavaskar.
