Team India have been docked 20 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against South Africa in the first Test held in Centurion. The news comes a day after the match ended on Thursday with the visiting side securing a historic victory beating South Africa by 113 runs.

Match referee Andrew Pycroft imposed the sanction after India was one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined 20 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

Along with it, Team India will lose one point from their tally as per Article 16.11 of the ICC Men’s World Test Championship Playing Conditions. India captain Virat Kohli pleaded guilty for the offenses and thus, there was no need for a formal hearing.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal set the platform with the bat on day 1 before the bowlers ran down the Proteas batting, who managed only 197 and 191 runs in the two innings respectively.

Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers in the entire match, returning with eight wickets including a five-wicket haul. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj also made crucial contributions while Ravichandran Ashwin picked up the last two wickets in the second innings to hand India a significant win.
