The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has had a major impact on human lives. A complete lockdown has been prevailing in most parts of the world in a bid to curb the spread of the deadly virus. As a result, all the cricketing activities have been shut with many series called off or postponed. Recently, Australia skipper Tim Paine opened on how much loss Cricket Australia will incur in the future.

India had to call off their three-match ODI series against South Africa after the first match was washed off due to inclement weather. Many other series including England’s Test against Sri Lanka and the ODI series between Australia and New Zealand was also called off. Moreover, the organisers of the Pakistan Super League also called off the tournament.

Furthermore, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also deferred the Indian Premier League for an indefinite period due to the outbreak of COVID-19. With no signs of improvement, many more future series are also in jeopardy. The fate of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 and India’s tour of Australia look bleak with their decision of sealing the borders for at least six months.

Aussie Test skipper Tim Paine recently opened up on the losses Cricket Australia (CA) will incur if the series against India gets cancelled. As per Paine, CA will have to suffer losses of 250 to 300 million dollars. As per him, India should agree on coming to Australia as it will solve lots of financial issues going on for the board.

“I think there’s a bit of safeguarding towards the potential of India not coming (on a tour in December/January) which is worth something like 250 to 300 million dollars. I’m hoping that they get here, that would solve a lot of issues,” Paine told ABC Radio.

Notably, recently, Cricket Australi CEO Kevin Roberts spoke about the possibility of hosting five Tests instead of four-match series to recover some of the losses. In conclusion, Tim Paine spoke about variety of options that the government and CA can decide upon to go ahead with the series.

“I know there have been some early talks with Cricket Australia and the government around the potential of what could be done, chartering planes and getting them in isolation when they get here to make sure that we can get India here,” Paine concluded.
