Mumbai Indians defended their title to the prestigious IPL trophy for the fifth time – the most by any franchise by beating Delhi Capitals in Dubai. The social media was on fire as cricketers from Irfan Pathan to Harsha Bhogle took to microblogging site Twitter to congratulate Mumbai on their emphatic title win.

Mumbai Indians looked completely under control in the run chase as it looked like they belong to this place. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front steering the run chase with a fine knock – probably his best of the tournament. Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav departed after brisk starts but Rohit kept up the pressure.

Ishan Kishan, who once again had an outstanding season complemented well to take the chase deep. Although Rohit departed thanks to a brilliant catch from substitute fielder Lalit Yadav, Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya ensured Mumbai lift the trophy convincingly.

Batting first, Trent Boult got Mumbai Indians off to another fiery start with a wicket off the first ball negating the Marcus Stoinis threat. Delhi Capitals were in danger of being blown away on the big stage reeling at 22 for three in their first IPL final ever.

While Mumbai Indians unleashed all their cards, Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer held the fort high alongside Rishabh Pant, who was due for a big knock. They led the recovery steadily before threatening to explode towards the end.

The runs were not enough to seal the victory as Mumbai Indians dominated the run chase to cruise through to the IPL title. Meanwhile, Twitter was on fire as legendary cricketers showered praise on Mumbai on another title-winning campaign.
