The West Indies hard-hitting all-rounder Andre Russell was at his best for Jamaica Tallawahs against Trinbago Knight Riders in the 4 match of Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament played at Queens Sport Park, Trinidad on 10th August.
Captaining the Jamaica Tallawahs side, Russell dismissed Brendon McCullum, Darren Bravo and Denesh Ramdin in the last over to pick up a hattrick. Russell dismissed McCullum with the good catch from Rovman Powell, next ball he bowled Darren Bravo and in the final delivery Russell dismissed Ramdin to take a hat-trick.
He finished with figures of 3 for 38 in 20 overs. Trinbago Knight Riders finished with a massive total of 223 for 6. For Trinbago Knight Riders, Collin Munro scored 61, Chris Lynn 46, Brendon McCullum 56, Darren Bravo a quick fire 29.
Chasing the massive target of 224 to win, Jamaica Tallawahs were reduced to 41 for 5 in the 7th over. Andre Russell came to the crease and looked in great hitting form smashing the Trinbago Knight Riders bowlers. He reached his half-century off 18 balls and continued his brilliant hitting. Andre Russell made the batting look easy with some clean hitting which made life tough for the bowlers.
He reached his century off 40 balls and with Kennar Lewis added 161 runs for the 6th wicket. It was an amazing inning by Russell who hit the winning runs. Andre Russell smashed his West Indies player Dwayne Bravo with some clean hitting. Lewis made 51 runs off 35 balls and helped Russell to take the strike.
With 71 runs required off last 5 overs, Russell took the charge and smashed the Trinbago bowlers. He remained not out on 121 off 49 balls with 6 fours and 13 massive hits at an outstanding strike rate of 246.94. His captain knock helped Jamaica Tallawahs win the match by 4 wickets and 3 balls to spare.
Andre Russell scored the fastest century in CPL history. He is one of the best players in T20 format who can destroy any bowling line up on its day. His all-around performance helped him earn the man of the match award.
