Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar believes under-fire Virat Kohli should not miss out on India matches even if he needs to take a break to regain his form. The former cricketer suggested that Kohli should have skipped Indian Premier League (IPL) in a bid to regain lost touch.

Incidentally, Gavaskar’s comments came after Kohli got out for a golden duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium. He flicked Jagdeesh Suchit’s first ball of the innings straight to Kane Williamson, positioned in mid-wicket.

Sunil Gavaskar believes missing matches will not help Virat Kohli get the form back. The veteran feels the more he plays the more there will be chances of hitting the form.

“As long as the break doesn’t mean he is missing India matches. India matches should be No. 1 priority. It’s as simple as that,” Gavaskar said while being on-air for Star Sports on Sunday.

“I think the thing is that if you don’t play, how do you get your form back? Sitting in the change room, it’s not going to get your form back. The more you play, the more chances you getting your form back,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kohli’s rough patch has continued from international cricket to the IPL. He has managed only 216 runs in 11 matches in the 15th edition of the cash-rich league at an average of 21.60, including one fifty.

RCB beat Sunrisers Hyderabad to keep their playoff hopes alive

Despite losing Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis and Rajat Patidar put on a good stand to steady the ship for the team. They added 105 runs for the second wicket before Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik accumulated some quick points to put a challenging total on the board.

Du Plessis remained unbeaten on 73 runs off 50 deliveries while Karthik smacked 25 runs off the last over to propel RCB to 192 runs which were enough to seal the victory and be in the race for the top-four spot.

In reply, the Hyderabad franchise lost both their openers in the first over. Shahbaz Ahmed got Kane Williamson run out while Glenn Maxwell knocked over Abhishek Sharma. Rahul Tripathi and Aidan Markram stitched a partnership but was not enough. Wanindu Hasaranga starred with the ball with a five-wicket haul to seal the game.
