Indian skipper Virat Kohli has become a different cricketer to what he was when he started. On the other hand, Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has closely watched his transition and in the process, watched him grow as well. Shastri who now has two Test series wins in Australia in his CV has spoken very highly about Kohli. Upon their return back to India, Ravi Shastri and skipper Kohli spoke to Star Sports reviewing their latest series win in Australia.

While Ravi Shastri had been part of the Indian dressing room as the team manager from mid-2014 to early 2016, he came back as the head coach following Anil Kumble’s tenure in 2017. Speaking to Star Sports, Shastri said that seeing Virat Kohli evolve over the years was a treat to watch.

“Just seeing the way he has evolved, you knew that there was an uncut diamond there when I took over in 2014, but just to see him evolve… It takes time, everything doesn’t happen in a hurry,” Shastri said on Star Sports show Cricket Live.

He further opined that the Indian skipper has handled the ups and downs of his life beautifully along the way. He also complimented the Indian skipper on fatherhood.

“You got to have the ups, the downs, you know, you got to feel the heat, you got to have your successes and failures, to be able to get up and move on in life. I think he has handled that beautifully and I’m sure he will handle fatherhood as well in that similar manner.”.

Meanwhile, England have been bowled out for 578 in the first innings. Joe Root scored his third double hundred in his last four innings and his fifth overall. Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each, while Nadeem and Ishant took two each.
