AB De Villiers and IPL is a great love story that came to an end last season after the former announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. But apparently, a return is on the cards, according to former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli.

Incidentally, De Villiers and Kohli share a great bond and it has developed during their time in Bangalore. Both share a great admiration for each other. Kohli has time and again mentioned this season that he feels the absence of AB de Villiers.

However, Virat Kohli recently hinted that the Proteas superstar might return to the Bangalore franchise in some capacity. Speaking on an RCB podcast, the 33-year-old talismanic batter said:

“I miss him a lot. I speak to him regularly, quite regularly. He keeps messaging me. So we stay in touch and he’s very keenly watching RCB and hopefully here next year in some capacity.”

AB De Villiers is one of the greatest players to have played in the IPL and has been a household name since its inauguration in 2008. He was earlier with Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals) before becoming a key part of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He has scored over 5000 runs in the cash-rich league at a strike rate of over 150 and a healthy average of 39.71. He also has three hundred and 40 half-centuries under his belt.

RCB fighting for a place in the playoffs

The Bangalore franchise are in the race for the playoffs. They need to win all their remaining matches to give themselves the best chance of finishing in the top two. They are currently fourth in the points table with 14 points in 12 matches.

Newly-appointed captain Faf du Plessis has been doing a wonderful job and has been leading the side from the front. Dinesh Karthik, in particular, has been a revelation, putting in match-winning performances in the death overs.

RCB will lock horns with Punjab Kings in their next fixture on May 13 (Friday) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
