India is set to host South Africa after the IPL ends for a five-match T20I series. Former captain Virat is set to be rested for the series along with some other players given that the Asian giants have a lot of cricket lined up in the coming months.

Incidentally, Kohli is going through a lean phase in his career and has been out of form for quite a while now. He has hit only one fifty this IPL which is pretty rare considering Virat’s form in the IPL in the earlier seasons. He hasn’t hit an international hundred for more than two years now and the wait for his 71st international century continues.

Most experts and former coaches have advised Virat Kohli to take time off from the game and focus on other things which might help him deal with the pressure and lead him to regain his form. Hence, the BCCI is likely to rest the talismanic run-scorer from the upcoming series against South Africa.

“Virat Kohli in all probability will be rested for the South Africa series. He has been playing a lot of cricket and has been in the bubble for a long time. It has been a policy decision regarding Kohli and other senior players that they will be given periodic breaks from time to time,” PTI quoted a senior BCCI official as saying.

The men in blues are scheduled to play a few international series, including the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. Hence, the BCCI is contemplating resting all-format players Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant.

“Even skipper Rohit Sharma would require adequate rest with so much cricket being played. Some of the others include KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant, who all from time to time will need rest,” he added.

This would mean that there will be plenty of opportunities for the younger players who have done well for their IPL franchises and will also help the selectors out in choosing their best 15 for the World Cup later this year.
