Indian cricketer Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes that the former Indian skipper needs to go back to his basics. Kohli has been struggling to get big scores at the International level, in the last couple of years.

The right-handed batter averaged over 60 in four consecutive years since 2016. However, his average has come down in the last couple of years. Kohli averaged 37.07 last year in International cricket. His last international century came against Bangladesh in 2019.

The Delhi-batter played his 100th test match for India recently in Mohali. Many fans and pundits were expecting him to end the century drought, however, Kohli managed 45 runs in the test. He finished the series with an average of 27 in three innings.

Speaking on the YouTube podcast ‘Khelneeti’, Rajkumar Sharma expressed that Virat Kohli needs to come back to his basics. He added that he wants to Indian cricketer to return to his academy. The coach said,

“Virat will need to come back to his basics. I would definitely want him to come back to the academy. I was thinking about this from yesterday and I am going to talk to him. The kind of confidence that he gets batting in the academy, he needs it.”

Rajkumar Sharma further added that Virat Kohli has been batting well, but too cautiously. He explained that on batter should have taken more chances and bat a bit aggressively, on wickets that keep low citing examples of Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. Sharma said:

“He is batting really well but unfortunately, he is batting too cautiously. If starts to bat a bit more freely, like he has his entire career then soon he will be back to his best. On such wickets, you need to take more chances like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer did.”

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will soon be in action playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2022 season. He was retained by the franchise before the auctions. The former skipper will be keen to get back to his best in the upcoming IPL season.
