Virender Sehwag Suggests A New Opening Pair For Royal Challengers Bangalore

Former Indian skipper Virender Sehwag has come up with a new opening combination for Royal Challengers Bangalore after their recent loss against Punjab Kings. That was the side’s second loss in last three games and Sehwag has blamed the batting order for the loss of the side. Sehwag wants RCB to open with Mohammed Azharuddeen which will then extend the RCB batting lineup with Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and AB De Villiers batting in the middle order.

Virender Sehwag’s suggestion comes after RCB suffered a 34-run loss to Punjab Kings on Friday in Ahmedabad. Chasing 180, the RCB top-order struggled for timing and placement scoring 62/1at the 10-over mark with both Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar batting at close to run-a-ball. Sehwag said that RCB should promote Azharuddeen over Rajat Patidar.

RCB Should Consider Mohammed Azharuddeen For Opening Role: Virender Sehwag

“I think Virat should come back to his original position of number three, and consider Mohammad Azharuddeen for the opening role. He looks like a better option than Patidar right now. Kohli should be no.3, with Maxwell and ABD to follow,” Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Virender Sehwag further said that the change would allow the likes of Virat Kohli to get back at his favourable number three position followed by the likes of Maxwell and De Villiers.

“That would mean that you have three world-class players in the middle-order. If Devdutt Padikkal and Azharuddeen don’t do the job at the top, then these three are capable enough to bail the side out of trouble,” he added.

Despite the recent losses, RCB has managed to stay in the top four in the points table. They face KKR in their next game who are themselves striving to come back to winning ways after five losses from their first seven games.

The table is well and truly opening up and the fight for the fourth spot is well and on between the five teams languishing at the second half of the table.
