The Indian cricket team departed from Colombo airport on Monday afternoon, heading back to India after a commanding win over Pakistan in a one-sided encounter at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the Men in Blue are set to play their final Group A match against the Netherlands on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Having already secured a spot in the Super 8s with three wins from three matches, India will look to maintain their momentum with another victory. India and Sri Lanka are co-hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, with all of Pakistan’s matches being held in Sri Lanka. In Colombo, India defeated Pakistan by 61 runs in a highly anticipated clash.

The match had added drama as Pakistan initially announced a boycott but later reversed the decision and took part. After winning the toss, Pakistan chose to field first. India lost Abhishek Sharma for a duck, but Ishan Kishan’s 77 and Tilak Varma’s 25 kept the innings steady.

The team then slipped to 126/4 after losing their set batters and Hardik Pandya (0). However, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Rinku Singh guided India to a total of 175/7 under challenging conditions. Saim Ayub (3/25) was Pakistan’s standout bowler.

During the chase, Pakistan struggled early, falling to 34/4 thanks to strikes from Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Axar Patel. Usman Khan (44 off 34 balls, with six fours and a six) was their lone fighter, as India bowled Pakistan out for 114 in 18 overs.

Pandya (2/16 in three overs) led India’s bowling attack, supported by Bumrah (2/17), Axar Patel (2/29), and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/17). India now tops Group A with three wins from three games, while Pakistan drops to third with two wins and one loss, and the USA sits second with two wins and two losses.

The emphatic win also extends India’s head-to-head record against Pakistan in T20 World Cups to 8-1.
