Indian cricketers were ecstatic after KL Rahul returned unscathed on day 1 of the Lord’s Test against England. He remained unbeaten on 127 runs as India ended the day at 276/3 putting the hosts on the backfoot.
Coming into the team on the back of two injuries, KL Rahul made the spot his own with two back-to-back high-class knocks in Nottingham and London. While he missed his century by a whisker at Trent Bridge, Rahul converted the start at Lord’s to take his name to the honours board.

He and Rohit Sharma once again got India off to a steady start adding 126 runs for the first wicket. Rohit missed his century by 16 runs while Virat Kohli once again failed to convert the start after scoring 42 runs. Except for these two occasions, the entire day belonged to KL Rahul, who played some majestic shots to reach the three-figure mark.
The entire dressing room was seemingly happy with Rahul as he became only the 10th Indian batter to score a Test century at Lord’s. The teammates welcomed him amid loud cheers and every member congratulated him for a special knock.

This is the best I have seen KL Rahul bat: Rohit Sharma
Team India opener Rohit Sharma, who saw KL Rahul bat from the other end, showered praise on Rahul. Speaking at the press conference, Rohit stated that this is the best he has seen Rahul bat.
‘This is probably the best that I have seen KL Rahul bat. I thought he was very much in control from Ball 1. Till we finished the day today, he looked very much in control. At no point, it looked like he was confused or thinking too much, he was very clear about his plans.
“When you are clear with your plans, when you trust your plans, it definitely works. I thought today was his day and I thought he really made it count,” he added.
