In the IPL 2025 match in Mullanpur on Tuesday, April 8, Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed secured a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer.
The right-handed batsman, who scored nine runs, was bowled in the third over when a delivery pitched on the off stump; Iyer attempted to power the ball towards the leg-side without moving his feet, only to miss and have his off stump struck.
A few overs later, Khaleel Ahmed further strengthened his impact by sending Marcus Stoinis back for 4 runs. This performance has elevated him to joint-leading wicket-taker in IPL 2025, alongside his teammate Noor Ahmed, with 10 wickets in five matches.
Iyer’s dismissal marked his second consecutive low score in the tournament, having previously managed only 12 against the Rajasthan Royals at the same venue, following earlier unbeaten knocks of 97 and 52 in wins over the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants respectively.

Earlier, Shreyas Iyer had won the toss and elected to bat first, with both sides keeping their teams unchanged in a bid to return to their winning form.
Khaleel Shines as a Key Positivity for CSK
CSK have found the beginning of IPL 2025 challenging, having lost three out of their four matches. Nonetheless, one positive for them has been the regular breakthroughs provided by Khaleel Ahmed during the powerplay.
Khaleel has picked up at least one wicket in each of his five appearances so far, with his standout performance coming in the tournament opener against Mumbai Indians, where he claimed 3 for 29 in his four overs. Following that display, Khaleel mentioned that his focus was on swinging the new ball to make early inroads during the powerplay.
At the time of writing, PBKS were 128 for 5 after 12 overs. CSK are set to face Kolkata Knight Riders in Chennai on Friday, April 11, while PBKS will meet Sunrisers Hyderabad in the second match of the double-header on Saturday.
