South Africa’s off-spinner Simon Harmer provided a crucial breakthrough by dismissing Indian skipper Rishabh Pant for a small score on Day 5 (Wednesday, November 26) of the second Test at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The dismissal occurred on the second delivery of the 32nd over during India’s second innings.
Harmer floated the ball outside the off-stump, and Pant moved forward in defence, but the delivery gripped, turned sharply, and kicked up unexpectedly. It struck high on the bat and popped towards the slip cordon, where Aiden Markram safely completed the catch, his seventh of the match.

Harmer Stars As India Face Series Whitewash Threat
South Africa opted to bat first and got off to a commanding start in the second Test, piling up 489 runs in their opening innings, highlighted by a century from Senuran Muthusamy, who scored 109. India’s reply fell well short, bowled out for 201 as Marco Jansen tore through the batting order with figures of six wickets.
The Proteas maintained their dominance with the bat in their second outing, posting 260/5 in 78.3 overs before declaring. Tristan Stubbs anchored the innings with a composed 94 from 180 balls, leaving India with a massive fourth-innings target of 549.
The chase began poorly for the hosts, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) and KL Rahul (6) dismissed early, ending Day 4 at 27/2, with Sai Sudharsan (2) and Kuldeep Yadav (4) still at the crease. On Day 5, Simon Harmer struck twice in one over to remove Kuldeep (5) and Dhruv Jurel (2), reducing India to 42/4.
Rishabh Pant’s dismissal shortly after deepened the collapse. At the time of writing, India were 70/5 after 37 overs, requiring another 479 runs to win, with 70 overs remaining and Sudharsan (13) alongside Ravindra Jadeja (7) in the middle. Meanwhile, Simon Harmer continues to dominate the innings with four wickets already to his name.
