[WATCH] Rovman Powell Unleashes A Helicopter Shot On Kieron Pollard During The ILT20 Clash

During the International League T20 (ILT20) match on January 22, Dubai Capitals captain Rovman Powell played a ‘Dhoni-esque’ helicopter shot against MI Emirates counterpart Kieron Pollard. Powell smashed 97 runs off 41 balls, including 10 maximums and four boundaries, to help the side reach a mammoth total of 222 runs in their 20 overs.

During the game, as the Caribbean’s explosive hitter appeared to be in his element, he quickly targeted compatriot and Emirates franchise captain Kieron Pollard. Powell hit all cylinders in the 20th over, dispatching one onto the stands with the infamous ‘helicopter shot,’ followed by a short pitch delivery that also sailed over the boundary for a six.

Rovman Powell hits a maximum:

Dubai had a massive lead in the competition after tearing into the opposing bowling unit. The onus was on the Dubai bowlers to defend the massive total in the second innings run-chase.
MI Emirates needed a similar sort of innings in response to the massive total, with someone from the unit playing a magical knock.

However, the Emirates team lost early wickets, putting them under pressure during the chase. Pollard, the skipper, came in and immediately hit the ground running with the bat. Pollard hit 86 off 38 deliveries and nearly pulled off a miracle to get the derailed side back into the game.

Despite the quick knock, the side lost the contest, falling just 16 runs short of the finishing line as the side finished the chase with 206/5. After defeating MI Emirates, Dubai snapped a three-match losing streak and now sits in fifth place in the standings with four points. As the competition nears its conclusion, Dubai will need to up the ante and push themselves in order to qualify for the event’s final four.
