[Watch] “Some Things Stay The Same”: Wasim Akram Rattles Michael Atherton’s Stumps With An Inswinging Yorker

Wasim Akram, the Pakistan superstar of the game has been famous for his proper inswinging Yorkers, back in the 90s. The 56-year-old again recapped his classic characteristic in a charity match organized in remembrance of the late Shane Warne.

Akram produced a ripper to dismiss the former English skipper Michael Atherton, with Clive Llyod, being an umpire and the great Brian Lara at the non-striker’s end. The former Pakistan left-arm pacer bowled a toe-crushing yorker, which went on to hit the middle and leg stump, and later on, Akram celebrated the wicket in his own style.

Whereas, Atherton just smiled while walking back to the pavilion. Atherton and Akram have been international rivals back in the 90s. Also, the duo has played for Lancashire, the county cricket team, for several years.

Furthermore, referring to the dismissal, Akram took a dig at his former Lancashire fellow on Twitter. Akram wrote: “Sorry @Athersmike we might get older, but some things will stay the same!”

Moreover, the game featured some of the greats from the game, including the two-time World Cup-winning skipper Charlotte Edwards of England, Brian Lara, alongside Ian Bell, Monty Panesar,  Atherton, and Neil Johnson, commentator Mark Nicholas, and World Cup-winning skipper Clive Llyod, as an umpire. The game also featured Rajasthan Royals co-owner Manoj Badale.

Besides, in one of his recent interviews, Atherton had described Akram as “one of the great left-arm pacers that the game has ever seen.” Also, the former Aussie great Allan Border had said in an interview that ‘‘if he wants to be reborn as a cricketer, it would be as the great Wasim Akram.’’

Akram has 414 Test wickets in his account; while, in ODIs, he has captured 502 wickets, across his international career.
