Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga made an immediate impact against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati on Sunday. The former Sri Lanka T20 captain dismissed the dangerous Rahul Tripathi for 23 and celebrated with the iconic ‘Pushpa’ gesture, with a video of the moment going viral on X.
The breakthrough came in the eighth over when Royals skipper Riyan Parag opted for spin from both ends, having already used Maheesh Theekshana. Hasaranga struck right away as Tripathi attempted a pull shot, but the ball held up on the surface, preventing him from making clean contact. Positioned at mid-wicket, Shimron Hetmyer took a well-judged tumbling catch.

Jofra Archer provided the early breakthrough by dismissing Rachin Ravindra for a duck. Wanindu Hasaranga, promoted to No. 6, couldn’t make an impact with the bat and was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja. Despite this, Rajasthan Royals managed to post a competitive total of 182/9 in 20 overs, thanks to Nitish Rana’s explosive 81 off 36 balls and Riyan Parag’s steady 37.
However, the Royals struggled to accelerate in the final overs. Noor Ahmad and Matheesha Pathirana were effective, sharing four wickets between them while conceding 56 runs in their combined eight overs. Khaleel Ahmed also claimed two wickets, while Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up one each.
Wanindu Hasaranga dismisses both Shivam Dube and Vijay Shankar
The 27-year-old also dismissed Shivam Dube (18) and Vijay Shankar (9), further denting the Super Kings’ chase. Dube fell to a stunning catch by Riyan Parag at short cover, while Shankar was completely deceived by a well-flighted delivery.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) entered the match on the back of consecutive losses to SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), still searching for their first win of the season. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings had secured a victory against Mumbai Indians but suffered a 50-run defeat at home against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
