Former Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis has been in the news for a quite long time. However, recently, during a discussion on a Pakistani talk show, he left everyone in a laugh while responding to a query about Ifthikar Ahmed as he made a massive blunder on-air.
While appearing on a Pakistani talk show during the ongoing ICC World T20 2021, Waqar Younis stated that all-rounders Ifthikar Ahmed and Shoaib Malik are of the same age group. And, in the Pakistani talk show, other legends like fast bowler Wahab Riaz, ex-Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq and former pacer Wasim Akram were present as well.
“After Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez’s retirements, do you think Ifthikar, Sahibzada Farhan, Kamran Ghulam, and Saud Shakeel will be good enough to replace them,” the talk show host shared the fan query during the T20 World Cup segment as well. “I think Ifthikar is probably, the same age as Malik,” Waqar Younis said before Riaz burst out in laughter. And, after this, legendary Pakistani cricketers Akram and Misbah reminded the veteran about his coaching stints as well.

However, he recently made headlines with his controversial comment after India’s 10-wicket defeat to Pakistan. He praised Pakistani opener Mohammad Rizwan for doing Namaz on the field and ended up giving a controversial statement as well.
“What I liked the most was what Rizwan did. ‘Usne Hinduon ke beech mein khade ho ke Namaz padhi (He stood in the middle of the ground and offered prayer in front of Hindus). That was something very very special for me,” Younis had said.
However, Waqar Younis was slammed by not only the cricket fraternity but also fans for his communal remark as well. As far as the campaign is concerned for Pakistan, they have won three in as many games against India, New Zealand and Afghanistan respectively. And, after winning against India, they broke the 29-year-old jinx as well as it was their first win over India in ICC tournaments.
