The India vs Sri Lanka 2nd T20I was pushed back by a day after Krunal Pandya was tested positive for COVID-19. However, the 2nd T20I match finally started on 28 July. Meanwhile, Team India entered the game with an inexperienced batting line-up. Also during the match,star Sri Lanka spinner, Wanindu Hasaranga tried to do a MS Dhoni type runout.

Wanindu Hasaranga recently became the number 2 T20I bowler in ICC rankings. He bowled a decent spell in the second T20I against India. In his 4 overs spell Hasaranga gave 30 runs at an economy of 7.50 and picked 1 wicket. Notably, the wicket Hasaranga picked was of the first 21st century born player to play men’s international cricket for India; Devdutt Paddikal. Devdutt Paddikal was dismissed by Hasaranga at a score of 29.

However, during the 19th over of the match, Hasaranga was completing his 4th over. In the first ball when Nitish Rana and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were running between the wickets for two runs, the leg spinner tried to dismiss Rana in MS Dhoni’s style. However, Wanindu failed to get a run out in his name as the batsman was already inside the crease. Notably, MS Dhoni has been seen doing these types of run-outs in his career several times. Also, Dhoni was successful many times completing the runout without even looking at the stumps.

Team India had a poor display with the bat against Wanindu Hasaranga and co.

India entered the match with only five pure batsmen. The list of batsman included Captain Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Paddikal, Sanju Samson, and Nitish Rana. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the number 6 batsman for India. The top 5 had big responsibility however all of them batted with a poor strike rate. Shikhar Dhawan was the highest run-scorer for the team with 40 runs of 42 deliveries. In the end, India posted 132 runs on board at the loss of 5 wickets.
