West Indies announce World Cup squad; some big names missing

West Indies have announced a strong 15-man squad for the prestigious 2019 World Cup squad to be played in England and Wales starting from 30th May. The team will be led by Young Jason Holder.

Chris Gayle who was seen in sensational form during home ODI series against England will be looking to showcase his talent in his final World Cup tournament. Evin Lewis, Shai Hope are other openers included in the squad.

Darren Bravo, young Shimron Hetymer, Nicolas Pooran are the middle order batsmen included in the squad. Marlon Samuels, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard misses out in the squad.

Andre Russell who has suffering from injuries since returning to cricket last year. He played 1 ODI and 3 T20I matches during the Bangladesh tour last year but has been playing franchise T20 cricket.

West Indies will play a tri-series against Ireland and Bangladesh before the World Cup. Carlos Brathwaite has been included as the 2nd all-rounder in the squad.

Kemar Roach, Oshane Thomas, Sheldon Cottrell are the 3 pacers included in the squad. Shanon Gabriel also makes a comeback into the World Cup squad. Ashley Nurse and Fabien Allen are the two spinners included.

West Indies did had a great 2015 World Cup as they were knocked in the quarter-finals losing to New Zealand thanks to Martin Guptill 237 not out. Under the captaincy of Jason Holder, West Indies drew the 5 match ODI series 2-2 against the number 1 ranked ODI side England this year.

The 1975 and 1979 Champions need to show their consistency in order to surprise the top teams during the tournament. West Indies will begin the 2019 World Cup against Pakistan on 31st May at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.
