Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar lauded Indian captain Virat Kohli for bringing change to the team. Captain Virat Kohli has bought out the aggressive side of team India and has established a ruthless mentality in pacers. Kohli’s never-give-up attitude has renovated team India since he took leadership from legendary captain MS Dhoni.
Many times during the Test cricket games Kohli’s match-winning mentality has been witnessed by the fans. He is one of the few captains who go for the win rather than draw also Kohli has discussed this in many interviews. Virat always backed his bowlers to go aggressive on the opposition batting unit.
Also, the right-hand batter played five bowlers in the pitch which showed even slight support to bowlers. Meanwhile, Shoaib Akhtar shared his opinions on India’s pace battery and Virat Kohli in Sports Keeda.
“I think Virat (Kohli) has done a wonderful job as a captain. I said it to Anushka Sharma in a Sony show- ‘I think Virat is making a mistake by being a captain. I knew there was a tremendous amount of pressure on him and, it would bog him down.’”
“In a country like India with a population of a billion, there are around 20,000 TV sets and channels, enough to slam him. In my mind, I was thinking, ‘he’s a young kid, let him score runs and play his game.’”said Shoaib Akhtar
He’s not a Virat Kohli on the field, he is a fast bowler: Shoiab Akhtar
The fierce Pakistan pacer Akhtar was very happy that his assumptions about Virat Kohli went wrong. Shoaib lauded Kohli for backing his pace battery and filling them with an aggressive and fearless attitude. Notably, several times Indian fast bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Ishant Sharma, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have talked about Kohli’s aggressive approach towards the game.
“He [Kohli] took up that challenge of being a skipper. He took it on and made sure that his replica was instilled within the fast bowlers. Virat wants to see his aggression in his fast bowlers. He’s not a Virat Kohli on the field, he is a fast bowler running in the form of an Ishant Sharma or a Bhuvneshwar Kumar or [Mohammed] Shami,” Akhtar added
