WTC Final 2023: Former England Captain Praises India Star For Refusing To Take DRS In WTC Final

The India star’s refusal to take a DRS even earned him the nickname “brave man” from former England captain Nasser Hussain.

On the opening day of the WTC Final at The Oval, India had very little to celebrate as Australia took the lead thanks to some outstanding batting from Travis Head and Steve Smith.

Indian bowlers put in a lot of effort, but only three wickets fell. The performance of wicketkeeper KS Bharat was one positive aspect of India’s game.

His selection as the wicket-keeper over Ishan Kishan attracted a lot of attention. In addition to taking some excellent catches, he also assisted the team in making a good DRS call.

“Very Tough With Virat Kohli” : Former England Captain Praises India Star For Refusing To Take DRS In WTC Final

When he insisted on refusing to take a DRS., former England captain Nasser Hussain even praised him as a “brave man.”

The incident occurred when Virat Kohli thought Steve Smith had edged one away from Mohammad Shami.

The on-field umpire did not buzz when Kohli appealed for a caught-behind because there was noise when the ball passed the bat.

Then, Bharat persuaded Kohli to pass on DRS. With Kohli, India was very stern. Overruling Kohli is not simple.

Bharat, who was playing in his fifth Test, had the guts to stop Kohli from going for a review by saying, “No, you are wrong.”

Hussain remarked while providing commentary, “Brave man”. When asked by fellow commentator Justin Langer if Virat Kohli could be challenged, former India head coach Ravi Shastri offered his opinion.

Shastri responded, “If it was anybody else, he would have been half as expressive. In fact, Cheteshwar Pujara, of all people, had to tell Virat to calm down.”
