Team India are currently taking on Australia in the ongoing WTC Final 2023. However, on day 3, after assuming they had dismissed Mohammed Siraj, the Australian players started to leave the field, but were later compelled to come back due to the batter’s successful review.
Ajinkya Rahane (89) and Shardul Thakur (51), together guided India to a respectable score in the first innings of the WTC Final 2023 between India and Australia.
Shardul Thakur and Rahane put together an outstanding 109-run stand for the seventh wicket after KS Bharat was dismissed early on Day 3 of the match. The pair helped India reach its goal of 296 runs. But right before the end of its innings, an unusual incident occurred, which prompted boos from Indian fans toward the Australian players.
Real-time inspection revealed that it was square. The umpire immediately raised his finger which caused the Australian players to head for the locker room. The Australian players carried on walking, however, despite Siraj’s decision to request a review almost immediately.

The umpire Chris Gaffney changed his mind after seeing the replay. He revealed that Siraj had a thick inside edge of his bat before the ball struck his pads.
The Australian players were then the target of boos that erupted throughout the Oval stadium. Many of them had already crossed the boundary line. They were forced to sprint back into their positions while grinning sheepishly.
Following the incident, India added two more runs to their total, both from Mohammed Shami, before the batter was eventually caught behind by Alex Carey. Thanks to Rahane and Shardul’s heroics in the first session of the day. India avoided a follow-on despite Australia taking a massive 173-run lead in the first innings.
Australia had earlier scored a staggering 469 runs, with centuries from Travis Head (163) and Steve Smith (121). India suffered a batting order collapse early in the innings. None of their top four batsmen were able to score more than 20 runs.
An all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the team’s leading scorer on Day 2 with a quickfire 48 off 51 balls.
