Musheer Khan scores century

Mumbai’s rising star, Musheer Khan, a prominent member of the ICC U19 World Cup Indian team, is making waves in the ongoing Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha. The 19-year-old batsman showcased his immense talent by delivering a remarkable performance, scoring 136 runs in 326 deliveries, including 10 boundaries.

This contribution played a pivotal role in Mumbai securing a commanding 500-plus run lead, hinting at Musheer’s potential as a future cricketing sensation. What adds to Musheer’s achievement is that he surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar‘s record during this innings. Tendulkar, who was present in the stands, held the previous record as the youngest Mumbai batsman to score a century in a Ranji Trophy final.

Musheer achieved this milestone at the tender age of 19 years and 14 days, bringing up his century in 255 balls with Tendulkar as a witness to the historic moment. The young batsman has consistently demonstrated his prowess throughout the Ranji Trophy, playing crucial innings in both the semifinal against Tamil Nadu and the quarterfinal against Baroda.

In the semifinal, Musheer contributed a valuable 55 runs in 131 balls, while in the quarterfinal, he converted his maiden first-class century into a double ton, scoring an impressive 203 runs in 357 balls. Musheer’s aggregate in three matches stands at an impressive 433 runs, maintaining an average of 108.25, with two centuries and a half-century to his credit.

His best score, an unbeaten 203, underscores his ability to play impactful innings for his team. Beyond the domestic circuit, Musheer’s performance in the U19 World Cup was equally commendable. Across seven matches, he scored 360 runs at an average of 60, boasting a strike rate of over 98.

With two centuries and a fifty in the tournament, Musheer emerged as the second-highest run-scorer, showcasing his potential on the global stage. Furthermore, Musheer’s versatility extends to his role as a spin-bowling all-rounder, evident from his 554 runs at an average of 61.55 and 13 wickets in 14 Youth ODIs.

In a cricketing family, Musheer’s elder brother, Sarfaraz Khan, recently made his international debut against England, making a mark with twin half-centuries in his debut Test. With Sarfaraz and Musheer both exhibiting promising performances, the question arises: could they be the next star sibling duo for Team India? Only time will unveil the trajectory of their cricketing journey.
