The former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will go down as one of the greatest match-finishers in the history of Indian cricket. His service to the nation including the 2007 World T20 and ICC World Cup 2011 will forever be etched in the hearts of the cricket lovers. However, the talented all-rounder sustained a life-threatening disease when he was in the pick which had a massive impact on his career.

Incidentally, few days after he won the World Cup for India, Yuvraj Singh’s world came down on his head as he was diagnosed with cancer. Later it came out that Yuvraj was battling with the initial stages of cancer during the mega event. However, he chose to play for his country and win the global title for 130 crore citiizens.

But the all-rounder is fighter both on and off the field. Yuvraj Singh fought his way back and made a fairytale comeback on the field. However, he never got that touch back despite playing a few good knocks here and there before bidding goodbye to the game last year. Recently, Yuvraj opened up on the difficult phase and said that it came during the peak of his career.

“I think it is something that you cannot express in words, unfortunately, the moment came when I was in the peak of my career. We had won the 50-over World Cup, Sourav Ganguly had just retired, I was looking to play Test cricket, and then I got diagnosed with cancer. It was disappointing. But if you look at the good part, I was young, my family had a hard time in dealing with it but my mother was very supportive,” Yuvraj Singh told Kevin Pietersen during a live session on Instagram.

“I came back, everyone said I won’t make a comeback, but I did. I was very inspired by Lance Armstrong, I am watching the Last Dance on Netflix now, I now think I could have retired for a year then and I could have made a comeback then, but I wanted to play Test cricket. Did not want to be a story of someone who just makes a comeback from cancer,” he added.

Meanwhile, post his retirement from international cricket and IPL, Yuvraj Singh plied his trade in the Global T20 Canada and Abu Dhabi T10 League. However, it remains to be seen if he makes a comeback once again this year.
