Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, two of India’s brightest young cricket stars, were mentored by legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh during their formative years. Yuvraj has never shied away from praising their on-field performances, but according to his mother, Shabnam Singh, his mentorship came with a tough-love approach.

In an interview with Curly Tales, Shabnam revealed that both Shubman and Abhishek are still “petrified” of Yuvraj due to his strict guidance and high standards. She said Yuvraj watches their matches closely and doesn’t hesitate to call them in the evening to offer feedback, often keeping them on edge with his intense cricketing insights.

Yuvraj Gets Nervous Watching His Protegés Bat

Despite his intimidating approach, Yuvraj is deeply invested in the careers of the two youngsters. He confessed that watching Gill and Abhishek bat now makes him anxious, much like his mother used to feel when he was on the field.

Yuvraj said he spent significant time training and mentoring them, building a strong emotional connection. Their performances clearly mean a lot to him, and even though he maintains a stern exterior, it’s evident that he deeply cares about their success and development.

Gill and Sudharsan Shine as IPL 2025 Heats Up

Meanwhile, in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Shubman Gill continues to impress. At Eden Gardens, Gill smashed his fifth fifty of the season, scoring a quick 90 and bringing his total runs to 417, surpassing LSG’s Nicholas Pooran. His partner at the crease, B Sai Sudharsan, who recently took the Orange Cap with a 52-run knock against KKR, praised Gill for his calming influence and match awareness.

The duo stitched a solid 114-run opening stand, helping Gujarat Titans post a formidable 198/3. Sudharsan, averaging 52.13 with a strike rate of 152.18, acknowledged the pitch was tricky early on, but emphasized their strategic running and communication helped them dominate. He believes the total gives their bowlers a solid chance to secure another win for the table-topping GT squad.
