Chennai Super Kings batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad will stay in quarantine as he still yet to Test COVID-19 negative. A few weeks back Gaikwad along with fast bowler Deepak Chahar was tested coronavirus positive and was immediately sent in quarantine by the CSK franchise. ‘

Since then Chahar has recovered and is currently preparing with the CSK franchise for IPL 2020. However, Gaikwad even after 2 weeks still hasn’t been allowed to join CSK inside the bubble of their team hotel. The young batsman will once again undergo two fresh Covid-19 tests on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Gaikwad COVID positive and might miss few IPL matches

“Ruturaj will undergo two tests as per protocol, today and tomorrow. If he tests negative, he will be back in the team hotel bubble. The other staff members have tested negative and are now back to normal. They are back in team bubble,” CSK CEO KS Viswanathan told PTI on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad is now expected to miss an initial few IPL matches of CSK as he continues to remain COVID positive. CSK will kick off their campaign in the season opener against Mumbai Indians on September 19. Gaikwad will have to wait for the result of his tests and only if he is examined negative he will be entitled to commence his training with his squad.

Meanwhile, after Suresh Raina’s pullout from the IPL 2020, the CSK franchise was banking on Gaikwad to replace the veteran batsman. The Southpaw was picked by CSK in the IPL auction after his prolific form for India A. It remains to see who will bat at the crucial number 3 spot for CSK in the few early matches of the upcoming IPL season.

Furthermore, CSK will follow the established protocol and he will also have to experience cardiovascular and lung function tests to determine his fitness if he clears the coronavirus tests. Ruturaj Gaikwad is likely to be available for selection only after a week.
