CSK Rubbishes Reports Of Dawid Malan Replacing Suresh Raina

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) received a massive blow when stalwart Suresh Raina pulled out of IPL 2020 owing to personal reasons. Since then, a lot of speculations have been going around in the social media about his replacement. Recent reports suggested that England batsman Dawid Malan will replace Raina in the CSK squad. However, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has rubbished all such reports.

Rumours continue to rife over Raina’s return in the cash-rich league. Although the cricketer has hinted that he might rejoin the CSK camp for the cash-rich league, but there is no official announcement yet. In the wake of this, reports stated that Chennai are looking to rope in Dawid Malan, who recently rose to the top spot in ICC T20I Rankings.

However, Viswanathan has rubbished all such claims. He reminded that Chennai Super Kings already have eight foreign players as per the rule and there is scope to rope another overseas cricketer.

“This is news to me as well because our quota of foreign players is already full. So I don’t know how we can have another foreigner in the squad,” he said.

Furthermore, Kasi Viswanathan also revealed that fast bowler Deepak Chahar will resume training from today. Incidentally, the cricketer contracted COVID-19 along with other 12 members of the squad. He has completed his mandatory quarantine and tested negative twice before rejoining the squad.

The pacer from Rajasthan has cleared the mandatory fitness test imposed by BCCI before resuming training.

“Deepak has all the necessary clearance from the CSK and BCCI side and will start training from today,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad continues to remain in quarantine. He will have to give two negative tests in 24 hours before joining the squad and resuming practice.

The three-time champions will begin their IPL 2020 campaign against defending champions Mumbai Indians on September 19 at the Dubai International Stadium.
