Gareth Southgate, the former England football manager, spoke about his love for cricket and reminisced about watching Test matches during the days of Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar. Currently, he is in India enjoying the ambience of the Indian Premier League with the Rajasthan Royals.
On Sunday, May 4, Southgate was spotted at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, watching the game between the Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. However, newer reports suggest that the first-date sightings came from Jaipur on May 1, where Southgate was seen supporting Rajasthan Royals in action against Mumbai Indians at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, proudly sporting an RR pink jersey.
The ex-England coach seemingly did not miss a beat, clapping and cheering as the game progressed. Southgate’s presence marks an even greater crossover between football and cricket, with the ex-England coach enjoying the IPL experience. His friend, Rajasthan Royals’ owner Manoj Badale, could also be one of the reasons why he patronizes the Royals.

Former England player and current national team coach Gareth Southgate is in India, keeping tabs on RR’s (slowing) IPL results.
“I’ve always been a fan of cricket. When I was a young kid. I used to watch Test matches all day long. I mean, I am going back to the era of Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar and players like that, and then, over the years, got to know a lot of the players when I was playing for England and I knew a lot of the England team,” Southgate said in a video released by the franchise.
