The IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala was cancelled midway on Thursday due to security concerns. At the time the match was halted, Punjab Kings were at 122/1 in 10.1 overs. The decision was taken after reports of security threats in the region.
IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed, “Yes, the match has been called off as a precautionary step, because there are some incidents which happened in Jammu, I believe. That’s what we got to know, so we thought it’s wise to call off the game,” he told IANS from Dharamshala. The stadium floodlights were turned off as a signal to end the game, and the players, along with fans, began evacuating.
Blackouts and Regional Tensions
The situation developed after a complete blackout was reported in Jammu, where locals claimed to have seen missile trails and drone attacks suspected to be from Pakistan. Similar blackouts were reported in Baramulla and Pathankot, with Chandigarh also placed under high alert.
As a result, both tournament officials and local authorities began evacuating players and spectators from the venue. These developments raised major security concerns and led to the match being abandoned to ensure the safety of everyone present.
PBKS Dominated Before Suspension
Despite the dramatic end, Punjab Kings had made a strong start in the match. After choosing to bat, openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh shared a commanding 122-run partnership. Arya got off to a quick start by hitting consecutive boundaries off Mitchell Starc, followed by Prabhsimran attacking Starc for three more.
Arya continued his form by striking Chameera for a four and two sixes. Axar Patel came into the attack in the fifth over, but the momentum stayed with PBKS as they ended the powerplay at 69/0. Arya reached his fifty in just 25 balls, lofting Axar for a six, while Prabhsimran also looked confident at the crease.
PBKS crossed the 100-run mark in 8.5 overs, with Arya hitting Kuldeep Yadav for two sixes and Prabhsimran reaching his fourth consecutive half-century off 28 balls. The first breakthrough came when Arya top-edged a shot off T. Natarajan was caught at short third-man. Just after his dismissal, a floodlight failure occurred and players exited the field. Soon after, the match was officially called off.
