Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta feels Virat Kohli gets carried away at times. Indian skipper Kohli, who is very aggressive and passionate on the field, is someone who doesn’t refrain from showing his emotions. There have been several incidents in the past where experts have criticized his behavior on the field.
Kohli has often stated that getting fired up helps him stay motivated on the field. While he may seem a bit too feisty at times, Kohli does keep things in check. Talking on the matter, Deep Dasgupta said Kohli doesn’t need to tone it down. However, he wanted the Indian talisman to be wary of not crossing the line at any point.
In the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand, Kohli was seen doing the ‘finger on the lip‘ gesture. Asked about this on his YouTube channel, Dasgupta said he might have to calm down at times because he’s the face of cricket in the country.
“You talked about him being there as a captain. Yes, he’s the ambassador of the country, especially when you are playing outside India. As I said, I wasn’t in Southampton (Rose Bowl) so I don’t exactly know how he behaved,” the ex-cricketer turned commentator said.
“There are kids who are watching Virat Kohli” – Deep Dasgupta
Since India is a cricket-frenzy country, most of the kids growing up tend to idolize cricketers. They try to incorporate their style of play and their antics on-field. From the bowling style to the batting stance, almost everything gets copied. Keeping this in mind, Deep Dasgupta mentioned it may be necessary for Virat Kohli to keep his gestures in check.
“I agree he needs to choose his words and gestures in the right way. Sometimes, I know he gets carried away. As you said, there are kids who are watching him – he’s a role model for millions of kids and I agree with that,” Dasgupta said.
Virat Kohli will next be seen in the 5-match Test series against England starting on August 4. Since Cheteshwar Pujara is not in form, we might see a change in the batting order. Kohli might walk out at Number 3 to accommodate KL Rahul in the middle order.
