In a suprise announcement on Thursday, MS Dhoni handed over the CSK captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja. CSK released a statement on their website which said that Dhoni has opted not to continue as captain of the franchise and has chosen Jadeja to lead the side in the future. The statement further asserted that Dhoni will continue to represent the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2022 and beyond.
Earlier also there were few speculations that Ravindra Jadeja will be made the new captain but CSK sources had denied any such rumours.
Jadeja, who has been a key member of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will be only the third player to lead the Men in Yellow. Dhoni led the franchise in 213 games while Suresh Raina captained the team in 6 matches. It should be noted that Jadeja was the most expensive retention (16 crores) of CSK ahead of the IPL 2022 mega-auctions.
Chennai Super Kings will play the IPL 2022 season opener on 26 March against Kolkata Knight Riders.

CSK is the golden part of Dhoni's captaincy legacy. CSK achieved everything under him. Don't like this decision one bit as this is probably his last season in the IPL as well. Truly the end of an era.

dhoni's insightful post match interviews will be missed. had this unique ability to distance himself and objectively analyse the game, win or lose, despite having been a participant! #IPL2022

Man I was literally thinking today how cool it is we still get to see MS Dhoni slay as CSK skip! The captaincy is in safe hands with Jadeja. But it hurts my heart a little knowing Mahi is in the winding down phase of his career. Heās given the game so much & gives us so much joy!

Dhoni handing over the captaincy is big news (after all he is CSK!) but not entirely surprising given the person he is. I don't think he will play every game either. Just like him. (Will miss those wonderful presentations with him though!)

Jaddu takes over from Dhoni. The first ever leadership change in CSK. End of an era. A mere thank you doesn't do justice to Thala's contributions to put CSK as one of the greatest sporting franchises on the global arena. End of an era! #CSKš¬ #IPL2022

Really sad to think that we've seen the last of MS Dhoni as captain on the field. There'll never be another like him. EVER. The greatest cricketing brain the game has seen.#MSDhoni #IPL2022

If you could play any player, just for captaincy in today's time, it was Dhoni.
Him stepping down basically means that this season will go in grooming Jadeja as a captain, and I won't be surprised if Dhoni sits out a few games and one of Jagadeesan/Rayudu/Ruturaj keeps.

MS Dhoni has left a legacy behind which is incredibly tough for anyone to reach. 12 seasons as CSK captain, 9 finals and 4 trophies. Mad success as a captain, one of the mastermind of the game.

It is going to be so weird not seeing Dhoni and Kohli walking out for CSK vs RCB toss. Used to be a wholesome moment.

MS Dhoni’s record as CSK Captain
Captain Cool had an amazing run as the skipper of Chennai Super Kings. Out of the 213 games he led in, CSK won 130. Win percentage of 61.55 is not something which many captains possess.
Under Dhoni’s leadership, Chennai reached the final in 9 out of the 12 seasons they have played. CSK won four IPL titlesĀ under Dhoniās captaincy ā inĀ 2010, 2011, 2018Ā andĀ 2021. MSD also led the Super Kings to two Champions League (CLT20) titles- 2010 and 2014.
