Aakash Chopra Opens Up About Why Rishabh Pant Isn’t Selected In Team India Squad For T20s and ODIs

Rishabh Pant has been left out of both T20 and ODI squad of India for the Australia tour. After his exclusion, Aakash Copra pointed out what went wrong for Pant as he was dropped from India’s white-ball squads. The explosive middle-order just hasn’t been himself in the ongoing IPL 2020 season.

Playing for Delhi Capitals, Pant has been below par with the bat. A lot of questions have also been raised on his overall fitness. According to Chopra, it’s his batting strike rate which has been an issue this season in IPL.

Rishabh Pant’s Form Is Far Away From Him- Aakash Chopra

The popular commentator said that Pant has not played his free-flowing natural and has looked out of form. He has tried to construct his innings this year which doesn’t come naturally to him. As a result, his strike rate hasn’t been impressive and because of that selectors have overlooked him in the white-ball team for the Australian tour.

“Pant is misfiring because you have hopes from him. There was a partnership between Iyer and Pant where Iyer was trying but Pant was not seen hitting at all. It seemed his form is far away from him,” Aakash Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“That is not the kind of Pant innings we know. His strike rate has not been good this year. His average might be alright but his ability to hit is not coming to the fore and if that happens, it will not work out,” Chopra added about Pant.

Meanwhile, Pant has so far scored 217 in 8 innings but his strike rate has only been 118. This is notably low as his overall strike rate in his IPL career has been an incredible 156. Batting at number 4, Pant has been reluctant to play the big strokes and eventually perished when he has tried to accelerate.

In place of Pant, Sanju Samson has been granted another opportunity in the T20 squad. Whereas KL Rahul is the first choice wicket-keeper batsman for both the T20 and ODI series for the Australian tour.
