Andre Russell Opens Up On His ‘Staircase Moment’ Against CSK

KKR all-rounder Andre Russell returned back to some form in Kolkata’s last league game against Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai on Wednesday. He scored 54 off just 22 balls to bring KKR within touching distance of victory after they were reduced to 31/5 inside the powerplay. Russell and Pat Cummins‘ cameos almost helped KKR to take control of the game but the Knights fell short by just 20 runs.

Andre Russell was dismissed in a rather unique manner in the 12th over of the KKR innings with the score on 112/6. He was in disbelief by the way he was dismissed by Sam Curran round his legs. He went near the team dugout and sat on the staircase looking back and thinking about his dismissal.

The picture of Russell looking all emotional after the incident went viral on social media. Russell has now revealed what he sat on the staircase after his dismissal.

“Well, I was very emotional and I didn’t know how to go to the changing room and face all my teammates after leaving a ball and getting out bowled like that,” Russell told KKR.in.

Expressing confidence in his own abilities, Russell said that he always believes that the target can be reached as long as he is on the crease, no matter the asking run-rate.

Everything Possible Till I am In: Andre Russell

“Once I’m there, you know everything is possible. Yeah, I’ve done it before a lot of times. So fans can know that listen, no doubt even when it’s 100 runs in 20 balls, there’s always a possibility of 20 sixes; who knows?” Russell said.

After the match, KKR captain Eoin Morgan had said, “I tend to stay away from Andre Russell after he gets out.” Reacting to the comment, Russell said: “Well, when you get out, and you know the job is not done, you tend to be angry and the HULK can come out. Last night was different. I was very emotional and disappointed. Wanted to take it home so badly. Was heartbroken.”

KKR and RR take on each other in Mumbai tonight to get back to winning ways.
