MS Dhoni has formed a magical bond with the CSK franchise in IPL. Dhoni has led CSK to 3 IPL titles but now it seems that the franchise will go through a transition ahead of the next IPL season. Aakash Chopra holds that in case of a mega auction, CSK should think about releasing Dhoni.

The popular commentator Aakash Chopra has suggested that CSK should look to buy Dhoni with the option of right to match card. If CSK decides to retain Dhoni it will cost them a huge sum of Rs. 15 crores and they will automatically have less money to procure other players.

CSK Can Pick MS Dhoni With The Right To Match Card- Aakash Chopra

However if CSK plays it smartly and decides to release MS Dhoni, then can get him back via right to match card at a much cheaper price. By doing this the franchise will have an ample amount of sum which they can use to rope in some key players for a hefty amount that will represent CSK for a long time.

“I think CSK should release MS Dhoni going into the mega auction, if there is a mega auction then you will be with that player for three years. But will Dhoni stay with you for three years? I am not saying don’t keep Dhoni, he will play the next IPL, but if you keep him as a retained player but you will have to pay Rs 15 crore,” Aakash Chopra said in a video posted on his official Facebook account.

“If Dhoni does not stay with you for three years and he plays just the 2021 season, you will get the Rs 15 crore back for the 2022 edition, but how will you find a player worth that Rs 15 crore? That’s the advantage of a mega auction, you can create a big team if you have the money. If you release Dhoni for the mega auction, you can pick him with the right to match card and you can pick the right players by having the desired money in your kitty”.

“You can pick Dhoni in the auction, from CSK point of view, if they release Dhoni and then pick him up in auction, it would be beneficial for them”, Chopra added.

Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra also pointed out that CSK requires a mega auction to rebuild their team. Time has come for CSK to look beyond their experienced players and make a team from the scratch in IPL. MS Dhoni will undoubtedly continue to captain CSK as long as he plays in the IPL but the franchise needs to think out of the box and introduce young players in their set-up.
