A few players from the Delhi Capitals squad reached Mumbai for IPL 2021 on Tuesday and they will now undergo quarantine until March 30. The likes of Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra and Umesh Yadav checked into the team hotel in the city. Indian Premier League 13 runners-up Delhi Capitals will kickstart their preparations for the upcoming season of the cash-rich league from March 30 with the tournament set to begin on April 9.

Delhi Capitals will start their IPL 2019 campaign against Chennai Super Kings on April 10 at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium. They lost the final against Mumbai Indian in the 2019 season after making it to the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Speaking to ANI, DC CEO Vinod Bisht had earlier said the idea to delay the camp was to give the cricketers, currently playing international or domestic cricket, enough time to freshen up and spend some time with their families before they enter the bio-bubble.

“We intentionally delayed our camp firstly because of the evolving scenario (COVID-19), secondly, compared to last season, a lot of cricket has happened and our players are on the move. So we said let them get some rest and spend time with the family because they are again going to be in the bubble. At the moment we are tentatively planning to get into our bubble on 23rd and so we should be out to start our camp by the 30th of this month,” he said.

The franchise will miss their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer in the Initial phase of IPL 2021. He injured his left shoulder during a fielding effort in the game. Iyer was immediately taken for scans after he walked out of the field and as per reports in ESPNCricinfo, Shreyas Iyer has dislocated his shoulder and will miss the remaining of the 50-overs series.

“Shreyas Iyer subluxated his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans and won’t take any further part in the game,” BCCI had said in their last update.

It will be interesting to see who replaces Iyer as the leader of the side. The presence of Steve Smith, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane gives them enough captaincy options to choose from.
