Kolkata Knight Riders pulled one of most exciting wins of IPL 2020 against Kings XI Punjab in the last over in Abu Dhabi. However, their excitement was marred by all-rounder Andre Russell’s injury during the second innings. Although Kolkata managed to secure a win, their future doesn’t look bright as Dinesh Karthik gave a worrying injury update.
Andre Russell copped a blow during second over of the Kings XI Punjab innings. He missed a catch while running back and made a sliding dive in an attempt to stop the ball from crossing the rope. However, in an attempt to do so, the Jamaican all-rounder crashed on to the advertisement boards.
The physio soon attended him as he walked out of the field. Chris Green replaced him only to walk out in the 11th over when Andre Rusell returned to the pitch after applying some ice. But soon after, Russell walked off feeling discomfort in his knees giving worrying signs to the Kolkata Knight Riders camp.
Dinesh Karthik delivers update on Andre Russell injury
Speaking at the end of the game, Dinesh Karthik revealed that the injury looked serious. However, he couldn’t reveal the extent of the injury. Calling Andre Russell a ‘very special player’, Karthik said that it is always difficult when the former suffers an injury.
“Whenever Russell gets injured, you know it is hard. He is a very special player, he is a very special person. We need to go and look at him,” said Karthik.
Although Andre Russell has blown hot and cold with the bat in IPL 2020 so far, he has turned out to be a match-winner with the ball. Dinesh Karthik has relied on him in the death overs and the all-rounder has delivered the goods for his side. In six games so far, he has scored only 55 runs with 24 being the highest score.
