Former India captain Rahul Dravid the current head of National Cricket Academy in Bangalore has stressed upon the problem of resuming cricket in India. He feels India aren’t in a position to resume cricket as of now.

Cricket in India has entered a full stop ever since the lockdown began in March. Also, BCCI had to postpone the IPL and the situation in India looks far from normal, Dravid feels the domestic season could also be shortened.

Unlikely to resume cricket in India soon – Dravid

“I don’t think we are in a position to resume. It is better to be patient and wait, We have to take it month by month. One has to look at all options,” Dravid said.

When asked if NCA could begin training anytime soon Dravid said that they are looking at possible options. Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid was hopeful to begin training in May; however, things have turned worse in the country.

“We have been making plans for all scenario but all of it looks very uncertain right now. I was hoping we would resume training at NCA in May, but that did not happen. We cannot rush young boys and girls even in bio-secure bubbles,” he added.

Furthermore, Rahul Dravid also put forward his thoughts on the resumption of cricket in the bio-secure environment. The former India captain also stressed upon the importance of player’s health saying its better to miss cricket for a few days than to expose players to such risks.

“In international cricket, it is possible. I believe the England-West Indies series will be a lesson for all. It has its own challenges. It is not as easy at the domestic level”, Dravid said.

NCA might conduct age group camps once cricket activity resumes but player’s safety remains the top priority, quipped Dravid before signing off.
