Mumbai Indians produced a champion-like performance to thump Delhi Capitals and make their way to the IPL 2020 finals. Shreyas Iyer & Co were 57 runs short in pursuit of 201 runs set by some brilliant batting show by the defending champions.

Mumbai Indians ran a rampage to have Delhi Capitals at none for the loss of three wickets from where they never recovered. Trent Boult came back to haunt his previous franchise with a double-wicket maiden to start off before Jasprit Bumrah knocked off Shikhar Dhawan with a perfect yorker.

Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel tried to take the attack to the opposition but Bumrah’s brilliant spell ensured Mumbai cruise to the finale for the second time in a row. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals will get a second shot on Sunday to book a berth in the summit clash.

Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians lost their skipper for a golden duck thanks to a brilliant move by Shreyas Iyer to bring Ravichandran Ashwin against Rohit Sharma. Since then, Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav shared a brilliant partnership to steer the innings.

Then came a phase when they slid from 78-1 to 102-4, and Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya, two of their less seasoned players, steadied the ship. Hardik Pandya finished the proceedings on a high with 14-ball 37 runs knock which completely took the game away from Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals.

We need to come out with strong mindset – Shreyas Iyer

Speaking at the end of the game, Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer backed his teammates after dismal effort against Mumbai Indians. He also said that it is important that they come out with a strong mindset in the knockout game on Sunday.

“I don’t want to speak negatively about the team, but going forward it’s important to come with a strong mindset. It’s never too late, and we’ll see to it that we come back strongly. Every night can’t be yours. We keep talking about the opportunities that we get and it’s important to have a good mindset,” Shreyas Iyer said.

Speaking further, Shreyas Iyer stated is extremely difficult to contain batsmen of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard’s calibre. However, he looked determined to come out of this defeat with a bang and play better cricket in the next game.

“All their batsmen are in great touch and Hardik/Pollard down the order are incredible. You can’t control the situation when all the batsmen are in good touch, but we’ll look to do better in the next game,” Shreyas Iyer concluded.
