Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been a crucial stakeholder in the national side ever since he made his international debut. He has provided the balance in the playing XI with his ability to contribute to all departments. Veteran coach Dav Whatmore believes Hardik Pandya will be crucial for the Men in Blues when cricket resumes after coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the all-rounder from Baroda has been out of international cricket for almost a year now. He was struggling with a back injury throughout 2019 and underwent surgery. He returned to cricket earlier this year and mulling a return during the series against South Africa. However, with COVID-19 outbreak, BCCI had to call-off the series.

Hardik Pandya will be key: Dav Whatmore

Dav Whatmore, who recently took over the charge of the Baroda side, admitted that his state player will play a key role. Heaping praise on Hardik, Whatmore said that he is an impact player and is a go-to cricketer for any skipper.

“Hardik is an asset to any side. His presence will motivate the other players in the team. He will also play for Baroda whenever he is available, and be a great source of strength,” Whatmore said. 

“Hardik is an impact player and it is always good to have a player of his class in the team. He needs to be used judiciously, and he’ll deliver. For example, when we need a guy to hang around, score runs quickly and also build a big partnership. Or if we need a guy to break a difficult partnership. Hardik is the go-to player and he will deliver. He has the ability to up the quality of his game and play an impact innings,” he added. 

Hardik Pandya, who last played against South Africa in a T20 game, is keen to get back on the field. Meanwhile, he is having an excellent off the field. Recently, Hardik announced that he and her partner Natasa Stankovic is expecting the birth of their first child.
